A BRUSH WITH THE HEART
How does my art story begin?
Years ago I returned to finish my BA in Business.
An art class was a prerequisite so I signed up for Art Appreciation. In this class I received my first B. Being just a little stubborn and antagonistic, I signed up for another art course. I knew nothing about art. I was so dumb, I didn't even know what a palette or a palette knife was. The Instructor wanted us to bring 3 small jars to class. Me, I thought paint was mixed up in these. Didn't know what medium was. I asked him how we would mix up all the colors in only 3 jars. Dumb me again, open mouth insert foot again. Then he had us bring charcoal pencils to class and told us to draw eggs without a line. I had to ask the person next to me how that was suppose to work. This poor instructor had his hands full. I only got to take two art classes, but...........I learned!
Little did I know that I would learn something that would tug at the heart strings so hard that it would be difficult to give up.
I managed to block it out of my mind for 30 years. I was a wife & mother. Worked in Banking, Lending, owned a Water Well Business, and ran a Cattle Ranching operation with my husband. My husband was on the road working most of the time so I ran almost 24/7. Finally retirement arrived. Now it was time to do what I loved doing. There was a big problem though. I had buried those cherished art memories. I could not find them. I compare it to losing something in the computer and not being able to locate it.
I was desperate, and thank heavens my college Art Instructor was willing to help me remember. I thank him for the patience he has had with me now, and way back in yester year, and I owe him my total happiness.
That is why my logo is: A BRUSH WITH THE HEART
My instructor was, & is Donald Dervovich, OPA, from Culbertson, Nebraska. Check out his website and you will see his heart on canvas. Dernovich.com
The subjects I paint have to touch my heart deeply. They are mostly depictions of experiences I have had in my lifetime, and one's that depict the country lifestyle that I cherish very deeply. I hope you enjoy my western art gallery and hope it touches your heart as much as it touches me.
